Marcd is a hyper-multidisciplinary design studio based in Brooklyn, New York making things both digitally and physically. We work out of our apartment at an IKEA Linnmon desk. Marcd is two people. We don't have a studio but we can meet you anywhere or you can stop by if you'd like. We each have one phone, so you can call us too. We'd love to work together on whatever you're thinking about doing with your life.
An object at rest stays at rest unless acted upon by an outside force. This proposal rethinks Newton's Law in the age of premeditation.
At the time these laws were developed, an ‘outside force’ would have been a physical interaction at that very instant. By means of today’s technology, an outside force may come in the form of the aforementioned physical interaction at that instant, e.g. a person physically moving a box , OR a premeditated force, e.g. a sensor reading that a person is in front of it, and telling a machine to move that box. In the latter case, the person has no direct physical interaction with the box, but the box is still able to be moved by that person.
Outside Forces takes a look at the human body’s interaction with premeditated forces to increase awareness of how and how often we are in motion. By setting the environment around us in motion only when we are motionless, can we start to reflect on what is means to slow down or stop completely and truly admire the wonders of the world around us.
